Giuliano Di Baldassarre was born in 1978 in L'Aquila, Italy. In 2002, he received the MSc in Environmental Engineering (summa cum laude; 100/100 with distinction), emphasized Water Resources Management, from the University of Bologna. In 2006, he took the PhD in Hydraulic Engineering, emphasized Hydrology, from the Milano University of Technology. Then, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Geographical Sciences of the University of Bristol.Dr. Di Baldassarre is currently working as a Senior Lecturer at the UNESCO-IHE, Delft. His teaching and research interests include: floodplain processes and inundation modelling, hydroinformatics, statistical hydrology, hydraulic modelling and remote sensing data, flood risk management under uncertainty. He has been the Coordinator and/or Principal Investigator of international multidisciplinary research projects, such as the recently funded EC FP7 project on Water-related Risk Prevention, KULTURisk (www.kulturisk.eu), including 11 partners from 6 different countries.Dr. Di Baldassarre is author of 27 papers on peer-reviewed journals in addition to more than 40 other publications, such as book chapters, conference proceedings and abstracts. His papers have been cited around 180 times, and his current H-index is 9 (Scopus, October 2011). He has been awarded for his studies and research with a number of prizes, such as the YSOPP Award by the European Geoscience Union (EGU, 2006). He serves the scientific community as Editor of "Hydrology and Earth System Sciences", Guest Editor of "Physics and Chemistry of the Earth" and "Hydrological Processes", and frequent Reviewer for many international scientific journals, Chairman and Convener of a number of conference sessions at the EGU Assembly and World Landslides Forum, as well as member of EGU, AGU, IAHS, PUB, SENSE Research School and UNESCO Task Force for IHP-VIII.
