UNESCO-IHE's senior lecturer in Hydroinformatics Systems, Giuliano Di Baldassarre has been awarded the 2012 Division Outstanding Young Scientist Award. The Division Outstanding Young Scientist Award recognizes scientific achievements in the field covered by the related Division, made by a young scientist. More information about the award can be found here, including the 2011 winners. Giuliano Di Baldassarre
Di Baldassarre's research focuses on the calibration and verification of 2D and 3D numerical models for estimating flooded areas, basing on efficient use of remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems. In particular, Di Baldassarre has made outstanding contributions to four distinct disciplines of hydrology: estimating uncertainty of hydrological information, parameter estimation (model calibration) for numerical inundation models, communication of risk and assessment of the impact on flood risk of land-use change and climate change.
