40,000 students
In the former USSR the Belarusian National University (BNTU) was the centre of science and technology. This year, the University will celebrate its ninety year anniversary. The BNTU currently has over 40,000 students studying at fifteen faculties divided over two institutes.
First talks
Contacts with BNTU were established during the IWA Young Water Professionals Conference for Central and Eastern Europe, held in May 2009 in Minsk, which UNESCO-IHE co-sponsored. The first talks were initiated between Damir Brdjanovic, Professor in Sanitary Engineering and Anatoly Hurynovich, Professor of Water Supply Engineering.
It is expected that this new collaboration will also initiate regional activities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
