Representatives from Hohai University visited UNESCO-IHE on 26 November 2010, to sign a Memorandum of Agreement to formalise educational cooperation between the two institutes. This cooperation started in September 2005, and has attracted new students to the MSc programme every academic year since its commencement.

Masters

The programme at the Master level includes specialisations in Hydroinformatics, Coastal Engineering and Port Development and Hydrology and Water Resources. These specialisations will run partly in China and partly in the Netherlands. Successful students will receive a UNESCO-IHE Masters of Science degree in Water Science and Engineering.

Joint efforts

Professor Tuo Zhu, Chairman of the Administration Board of HoHai University said: “The agreement we will sign today marks our joint efforts in developing jointly high-level trainings. I believe that our future cooperation will be a fruitful one.”

Great challenge

Professor András Szöllösi-Nagy, Rector of UNESCO-IHE added to this: “We have great plans for future cooperation. The United Nations has identified that the need for qualified water professionals is tremendous. The large educational requirements form a great challenge. We need to find synergies to make a larger impact. Increasing student mobility, encouraging academic staff exchanges will be a good start.”
