Amit Kumar is presently a Marie Curie Intra-European Research Fellow (IEF) at the Pollution Prevention and Control Core in the Environmental Resources Department at UNESCO-IHE. He has a PhD in Biological Engineering: Environmental Technology from Ghent University, Belgium and a Master of Technology in Environmental Engineering & Science from GJ University of Science & Technology, India.
He did his masters research thesis at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD). He also studied at the University of Massachusetts, USA during his PhD and was a visiting fellow at the Technical University of Munich, Germany.
His research interests are focused around environmental bioprocess engineering, including biological air pollution control, hollow fiber membrane bioreactor systems, sediment microbial fuel cells, and biosequestration of industrial CO2. He has been awarded several awards including a young scientist research award at NPL, a paper award during IWA Biofilm Technology Conference in Singapore and a paper award during the North American Membrane Society Annual Conference (NAMS), South Carolina, USA and NAMS annual award. He shared a paper award during the WRC Conference, University of Massachusetts, USA.

About the Symposium
The 2011 Air & Waste Management Associations Conference & Exposition, June 21-24, in Orlando, brought together more than 2,400 environmental industry professionals for three days to take part in one of the best technical programmes in the industry. 500 presentations, two poster sessions displayed over 150 posters and over 150 exhibitors and networking events were organized.
This year’s theme, "Beyond All Borders", focused on how environmental challenges often stretches beyond political, regional, and cultural lines, and involves diverse communities in working out solutions. Regional topics included the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill; air quality modeling; carbon dioxide; environmental management of ports, marinas, and shipyards; waste disposal on the Gulf Coast; and environmental issues related to transportation.
