On Thursday 15 October, 208 students from 58 countries, who have recently arrived in Delft to follow a Master of Science programme at UNESCO-IHE, were officially welcomed by the Rector and staff at the Institute. The next 18 months will be spent on working hard to address critical water issues, learning from each other's experiences and discovering innovative approaches to global and local water challenges.
With the largest representation from Ethiopia (31 students), Indonesia (22 students) and Tanzania (15 students), the mix remains very diverse, with participants from many other countries such as Afghanistan, Albania, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Islamic Republic of Iran, Mongolia, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia, Tajikistan, Viet Nam and many more.
True to tradition, the Rector of UNESCO-IHE addresses the new participants in the Institute's auditorium. This year Professor András Szöllösi-Nagy, newly appointed Rector, gave the newcomers a warm welcome to a network of 14,500 alumni, currently working in many countries across the globe to solve increasing water challenges. The mid-career engineers, environmentalists and managers are essential for the development in their countries.
